STORY
Originally founded in 1977 as an industry expert in marine hydraulic system repairs, MHI has grown into a full-service shipyard engaged on various classes of US Navy vessels and Military Sealift Command ships. We proudly employ nearly 500 people specially trained with the skills required to provide the best on-time and under budget service that keeps America’s Navy afloat. Located on the Elizabeth River in Norfolk, Virginia, MHI features a 1,220’ x 70’ wide pier with 36 feet of water capable of berthing up to four ships simultaneously. Our various shops and extensive subcontractor base is capable of performing any and all repairs and modifications.
MHI provides a full range of repair, maintenance and modernization services on all machinery, piping, electrical and structural systems. We have a state-of-the-art, environmentally controlled paint, blast and drying booth for marine coatings and other industrial coating applications. Certified NACE Level 3, NACE Level 1, NACE SCAT, SSPC QP1 and SSPC QCS.
To accomplish all repairs and modernizations, MHI relies on its highly customer rated Program Management, Engineering, Quality Management and Accounting Systems to ensure quality on time performance. We provide a secure facility utilizing RFID technology to secure our piers, machinery spaces and offices. Our company adheres to the highest standards of quality and safety and has been recognized multiple times by the Shipbuilders Council of America and the Signal Administration’s award for Safety.
In 2019, MHI became part of Titan Acquisition Holdings, a family of bicoastal leaders in ship repair modernization, marine and complex fabrication services. Titan is the parent company of MHI, as well as Vigor, operating in the Pacific Northwest, Alaska and Hawaii, and Continental Maritime of San Diego, in California.
Titan family customers include Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command, Maritime Administration, U.S. Army, local and state ferry systems, and commercial ship owners.
